Kathmandu: Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki expanded the Council of Ministers on Sunday evening, appointing three widely respected professionals to key ministerial posts. Their oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for this morning.

Newly Appointed Ministers

Advocate Om Prakash Aryal – Minister for Home and Law
Aryal is known for filing the landmark writ petition against the appointment of former CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki. He also serves as the legal advisor to Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen), whose recommendation is said to have influenced his appointment.

Kulman Ghisingh – Minister for Energy, Urban Development and Physical Infrastructure
Popularly known as the “face of Bright Nepal” for ending load-shedding during his tenure as Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Ghisingh’s appointment has been widely welcomed. Some Gen-G groups had even demanded that he be made interim Prime Minister.

Rameshwor Khanal – Minister for Finance
A veteran bureaucrat and economic reform advocate, Khanal has served as Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary, and chaired the High-Level Economic Reforms Recommendation Commission.

First Female Attorney General

Prime Minister Karki also appointed Senior Advocate Savita Bhandari as Attorney General, making her the first woman to hold the post in Nepal’s history.

Small, Technocratic Cabinet

According to sources, Karki is preparing to keep her cabinet limited to 11 members in order to maintain efficiency and focus during the interim period.
